Tiled Roof Repairs Sallins W91

One slipped tile can let in enough water over a wet winter to stain a ceiling and rot the batten underneath it. Tiles move for a handful of reasons: nails rust through, battens soften, frost cracks older concrete tiles and strong winds lift the edges. We replace and refix whatever has moved, then check the tiles around it while we are up there.

Matching matters on a tiled roof. Where your profile is still made, we source it; where it is not, we can take originals from a less visible slope at the back and use new tiles there instead.

Slate Roof Sallins

Slate is the traditional Irish roof covering and still one of the best looking. We work with natural slate, including Blue Bangor, and with Cedral fibre cement slate, which gives a clean, uniform slate finish at a lower weight and cost.

Dry Ridge Roof Systems Sallins

Ridge tiles have traditionally been bedded in sand and cement. Years of frost and rain break that bedding down until it crumbles, leaving the ridge loose and liable to blow off in a storm.

Sallins Dry Ridge Benefits

Because nothing relies on cement, you are not paying for ridge repointing again a few winters from now. Each ridge and hip tile is held by its own fixing, so it stays put in high winds, and air passing through the breathable ridge roll carries attic moisture away, so condensation has less chance to build up under the tiles.

Dry Verge Roof Systems Sallins

The verge is the sloping edge of the roof at each gable end, and it takes the full force of driving rain and wind. Mortar verges eventually crack and drop away, sometimes onto a path or car below.

Sallins Dry Verge Benefits

Dry verge caps are fixed mechanically, so they cannot loosen and fall the way old mortar does. They need no maintenance, keep birds and wind-driven rain out of the gable ends, and give the roof a crisp, finished edge that suits both new and older homes.

Why Have a Tiled Roof Sallins?

Tiles are the most common covering on pitched roofs in Ireland. They are affordable to buy and fit, stand up well to wind and rain, and can be repaired one at a time, which keeps the long-term cost of owning the roof down.

Benefits of Tiled Roofs Sallins

Concrete and clay tiles are tough, non-combustible and slow to fade. Because every tile has its own fixing, a single broken one can be swapped without disturbing the rest, and interlocking profiles shed water quickly on lower pitches where slate would struggle.

Types of Sallins Tiled Roofs

Most homes have concrete interlocking tiles in flat or profiled shapes. Clay tiles, including plain tiles and pantiles, turn up more on older and period properties, while slate, natural or fibre cement, gives a slimmer, sharper line.

How much does a Tile Roof cost Sallins?

We do not publish a price list, because no two tiled roofs cost the same. The figure depends on the roof area and pitch, the tile you choose, whether battens and timbers need renewing, how many chimneys, valleys and roof windows there are, and the scaffolding needed to reach it safely.

A small repair might mean a couple of hours and a handful of tiles, while a full re-roof is a far larger undertaking. Either way, the survey is free and the quote is written down, so you know exactly what you are paying before you agree to anything.

FAQs

FAQs about our tiled roof, slate roof, dry ridge & dry verge services.

Common questions about tiles, slate and dry fix systems, answered by our roofers.

Is it worth replacing a mortar ridge with dry ridge?

If your ridge mortar is cracked or the ridge tiles rock when pressed, it usually is. Rebedding in fresh mortar costs less at the outset but will need attention again in time. A dry ridge system breaks that cycle and adds ventilation along the apex of the roof at the same time.

Can you match my existing roof tiles?

Usually we can. A lot of concrete tile profiles are still in production, and reclaimed tiles can often be found for older or discontinued ones. Where an exact match is impossible, moving original tiles to the front slope and putting new ones on a rear slope keeps the side people see uniform.

How do I know if my slate roof needs replacing rather than repairing?

Look for slates slipping in numbers across the whole roof rather than one or two, which points to widespread nail sickness. Flaking or delaminating slates, a sagging roof line and leaks in several places tell the same story. We check both the slates and the timbers before giving you an honest recommendation.

Is fibre cement slate as good as natural slate?

They suit different jobs. Natural Blue Bangor slate has a texture and depth that suits period homes. Cedral fibre cement slate is lighter, more uniform and less expensive, so it is often picked for new builds and extensions.

Can dry verge be fitted to my existing roof?

Usually, yes. On most concrete tiled roofs we chip off the old mortar, fit a new batten end where needed and fix the verge units over each tile course. It is an upgrade that does not need a re-roof and is often carried out alongside dry ridge work to save on access.
