Rubber Roofs (EPDM)

Benefits of Our Expert Single-Ply Roof Installation

EPDM is a synthetic rubber membrane supplied in large rolls, so most house extensions, dormers and garages can be covered with one continuous sheet. With no laps across the middle of the roof there are far fewer places for water to get in, and the rubber stretches with the building as it warms and cools through the year.

EPDM Rubber Roof Benefits

Rubber suits roofs that need to stay watertight with very little attention. Once it is down there is no topcoat to renew and no chippings to wear away, and any damage is straightforward to repair.

  • Usually one sheet with no joints
  • Stays flexible in cold and heat
  • Laid cold with adhesive, no torch
  • Light, so it suits most structures
  • Neat trims for a clean edge
  • Simple patch repairs if damaged

FAQs

FAQs about our EPDM rubber roofing service

Straight answers to what people most often want to know about EPDM rubber roofs.

Is EPDM better than felt?

Each has its place. EPDM is usually laid as one sheet with no joints across the roof and is applied cold, which makes it a good fit for extensions next to living spaces. Felt costs less on many roofs and is easy to patch.

Can I walk on a rubber roof?

Occasional foot traffic for clearing gutters or maintenance is fine, but EPDM is not designed as a terrace or balcony surface. Sharp stones, dropped tools or furniture legs can puncture it. If you want to use the roof as a walkway or seating area, we will recommend fibreglass or a liquid-coated finish instead.

Can a rubber roof go over my existing felt?

Sometimes, if the old felt is flat, well bonded and dry, and the deck underneath is sound. In most cases we recommend stripping the old covering so we can check the boards and bond the rubber to a clean surface. We explain which applies to your roof after the survey.

How do you repair a punctured EPDM roof?

We clean and prime the rubber around the damage, then bond a patch of new EPDM or cover strip over it, rolling it firmly to make a watertight join. A small puncture can usually be repaired in one visit without disturbing the rest of the roof.

What does a finished EPDM roof look like?

A flat, matt black surface with neat trims along the edges and the membrane dressed up any adjoining walls. Because it is one sheet, there are no visible joins across the roof, which is why many people choose it for extensions overlooked by upstairs windows.

Why Choose Us

Why Choose Us for Your Rubber Roof?

A rubber roof is only as watertight as its edges, corners and upstands, so we take our time on the detailing that most leaks come from.

Professional Felt Roof Installation

Not every flat roof suits rubber. On roofs that take regular foot traffic, or where cost is the main concern, our roofers also lay multi-layer felt, and we can set out both options side by side in your quote so you can compare them before deciding.

When EPDM is the right choice, the job follows a clear order: strip the old covering, repair or replace the deck boards, fit insulation if needed, bond the membrane, form the upstands and fit the trims. We keep you informed at each stage and leave the site clean.
