Benefits of Our Expert GRP Fibreglass Roof Installation

A GRP roof is built on site. We fix new OSB3 boards and tape the joints, then wet out a layer of chopped strand glass-fibre mat with polyester resin and roll out every air bubble.

GRP Fibreglass Roof Benefits

Fibreglass is chosen when a roof needs to be tough underfoot and tidy to look at. It handles foot traffic better than rubber or felt, and it can be shaped around awkward outlets and corners.

  • Hard surface you can walk on
  • No laps or joints once cured
  • Topcoat in a choice of colours
  • Anti-slip finish for balconies
  • Moulded trims for a crisp edge
  • Damage can be ground out and relaminated

FAQs

FAQs about our GRP fibreglass roofing service

Answers to the questions people ask before choosing a fibreglass flat roof.

Is fibreglass better than felt or rubber?

It is better for some jobs. GRP gives you a hard, walkable surface with no joints and crisp moulded edges, so it suits balconies and small roofs that are seen from above. On larger roofs, or where the structure moves a lot, EPDM or felt can be the better fit.

Why do GRP roofs crack?

Most cracking comes from movement in the deck below, especially where boards were not fixed and taped correctly, or from a laminate that was laid too thin. Hairline cracks in the topcoat can usually be ground back and repaired. If the boards are moving, they need refixing or replacing first, or the cracks will return.

Can you lay fibreglass in Irish weather?

Resin needs a dry deck and suitable conditions to cure, so we watch the forecast closely and will not laminate in rain or on damp boards. If the weather turns, we cover the roof and come back. Planning around the weather is part of the job, and it is allowed for in the timescale we give you.

Can I put furniture on a GRP balcony?

Yes. A fibreglass roof built for foot traffic, with a suitable deck and an anti-slip topcoat, will take normal use as a balcony or terrace. We suggest pads under furniture feet, and planters raised off the surface so water can drain freely beneath them.

Can I change the colour of a fibreglass roof?

The topcoat carries the colour, so a new GRP roof can be finished in grey or another shade from the range, chosen when you accept your quote. An existing GRP roof can be cleaned, keyed and given a fresh topcoat, as long as the laminate underneath is sound.

Why Choose Us for Your Fibreglass Roof?

Fibreglass rewards patience: good boards, a laminate of the right thickness, and a topcoat applied in the right conditions.

Irish Suppliers

Irish Names We Work With

Flat roof membranes, fibre cement and natural slate from Irish suppliers.

Professional Felt Roof Installation

Some customers ask us for fibreglass when felt would suit their roof and budget better, and the reverse happens too. Because our roofers install felt, rubber and GRP, we can recommend whichever system fits your roof, rather than the only one we happen to sell.

If felt is the right call, we lay a multi-layer torch-on system finished with a mineral cap sheet. If GRP is, we laminate it on a new deck with moulded trims.
